Open Government

As a local government corporation, the Houston Forensic Science Center is subject to Texas’ public information law and can provide many records related to its operations. Public access to such records is governed by Texas Government Code Chapter 552, known as the Texas Public Information Act or PIA. The rights of people requesting information under the PIA, the responsibilities of governmental bodies responding to such requests and procedures to obtain the information are summarized on the Texas Attorney General’s website at the Public Information Act in English and Ley de Información Pública in Spanish. The Texas Attorney General’s 2016 Public Information Handbook contains the text of the PIA along with explanations of the statute’s provisions.
