Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner will join Dr. Peter Stout, CEO and president of the
Houston Forensic Science Center, on Tuesday October 22 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony
celebrating the grand opening of the city’s new crime laboratory.
They will be joined by City Council members, state legislators, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee,
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo and Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg for a
tour of the new forensic laboratory.

The news conference will be followed by a small reception in Suite 250 on the concourse
level of 500 Jefferson St.

HFSC is a local government corporation that provides forensic services to the City of
Houston and other local agencies. HFSC is overseen by a Board of Directors appointed
by the Mayor of Houston and confirmed by the Houston City Council. Its management
structure is designed to be responsive to a 2009 recommendation by the National
Academy of Sciences that called for crime laboratories to be independent of law
enforcement and prosecutorial branches of government.
HFSC operates in seven forensic disciplines.
